Kansas City

Pam and I will be taking our first vacation in 3 years. Actually it's four. I brought her along with me to Atlanta 3 years ago for a National Youth Worker Convention which was a great time! But I was working a lot of it. Four years ago I took Pam to Vegas which was great. We stayed at the Luxor. Saw the "Blue Man Group" and "O" @ the Bellagio. We explored the various casinos. We slept in every morning... great fun.

Well this year we are driving up to Kansas City July 12 through the 16th. I just booked our hotel. We're staying at Country Club Plaza and I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with my wife. I know a few things that I want to do while I'm there, but I'm looking for other ideas. Anyone KC folks read this blog?? What are things we must do while we are there? A favorite coffee shop, BBQ pit, museum, eatery etc.

KC Masterpiece or Smokehouse BBQ are the best....

I'm a suburb gal so coffee-shops are unfamiliar to me save for Panera....the Plaza is a trip, a fun place to walk around.....there are many things I am sure we don't avail ourselves of will keep thinking on it.....

If you know Mike King or Eric Venable from YouthFront, give them a call...there's a bbq place by their headquarters that is totally "hole in the wall" and is awesome...I just can't remember the name of it.

The plaza is fun to walk around and window shop in, and as far as food goes, Kona Grill on the plaza is unreal! Try their shrimp tempura rolls and the macadamia nut chicken...AWESOME!

Of course you have to walk around the plaza, look at all the over-priced shops, see the carriage rides (I don't know if Pam enjoys that kind of stuff or not).

If the Royals are in town, they're fairly inexpensive and no one goes. Really.

A visit to Crown Center is a touristy thing to do - Westport is cool and there are some great places to kick back and listen to some blues!

KC Masterpiece isn't the same as it used to be. Gates and Arthur Bryants are old traditions.

Some folks just adore the Nelson-Atkins.

Have fun. We love getting away to KC. If you see my relatives there or any of the folks I used to work with, tell them hi for me.

i live in kc and would be happy to give you more suggestions if you contact me. i'm partial to Jack's Stack BBQ. Arthur Bryants is the most famous and a good eat. Gates is not all that good in my opinion. KC masterpiece just flat out ____. Well, you get the drift. there are some amazing eats on the plaza. some are very pricey, but wow, they are awesome (plazza III steaks are the best, and figlios is a great Italian place). westport is a fun area with clubs etc... have a great time.
