Mac vs PC

Ok. In the next 4 months I'm going to purchase a new laptop. My Dell Inspiron 5100 has been a very good machine for me. Very few issues, except of my power cord breaking a lot. But I'm not going to buy a Dell for my next machine, because their customer service is completely frustrating to me. But it's a great way to waste an afternoon trying to replace a power cord. Anyway.

I'm feeling compelled to buy a Macbook or a Macbook Pro. Actually the MB Pro is stunningly beautiful to me. I think it's what I want.

I have also heard good things about the Sony Vaio, but it's not nearly as elegant.

I assume I would want the newest version of Office (which is 2007 and probably be available in June on a Mac)

The other issue is that I will be buying a new phone soon. I'd love to wait for the iPhone, but I'm hesitant to get first generation stuff. I also think the blackberry 8800 is a wonderful looking machine.

Here are my questions.

Mac or PC?
iPhone or Blackberry or Treo or ????

what do you think?

Ouch. Reading that list makes me way uncomfortable and strikes me as wrong. Creating a top 20 list like that seems so unlike something Jesus would do. I can see doing "Profiles on servants making an impact" but an actual ranking is well.....pretty rank.

I also know a few people on the list. In fact, I live in the same community with some of them - the community where i am serving as part of a volunteer youth ministry. Should I send my kids there? Will parents that read this list want to take their kids elsewhere? Since I'm a volunteer maybe I should volunteer there?

See - just seeing the list gets me asking the WRONG questions about ministry and distracts me from serving and encourages me to compare, envy, covet.

I hope that isn't the "Real News, Real Issues, Real Solutions" the Church Report was hoping to focus on.

*sigh*

I switched to mac about 6 months ago & love it. Everything is so much simpler, especially if you do much with video.

Blackjack is cool. I like mine. If you're getting a Mac, it might be best to get the iphone. My blackjack seems made to sync up with my PC.

My power cord on my Dell screws up too. It makes me angry....

The rep actually said, "Perhaps you shouldn't unplug it and wrap the cord up so much...."

I said, "If I wanted a desktop, I would've bought a desktop."

Macs rock. Our office completely switched from all-Windows to all-Mac. And, if you go with a Mac, ditch MS Office. Don't get me wrong, MS Office is _better_ on the Mac than on the PC -- in fact, Microsoft started life writing Mac applications. However, there are better applications on the Mac, such as iWork (of course personally I'm an open-source guy, so I use OpenOffice -- MS Office clone that is 100% free, though it isn't nearly as good on the Mac as it is elsewhere).

Macbook Pro. No contest. I learned on Macs in the 1980s, then went PC after graduating college because of work. But I finally rededicated my tech heart this August and feel renewed. No regrets.... at all.
