Adoption

I've lost count. Pam and I have so many friends who have adopted children, or are in the process of adopting kids into their families. Friends in Michigan, friends in Colorado, friends in Oklahoma. Kids originally from Michigan, Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Korea.

An example of this is Jay and Jen's site which tells the amazing story of their journey to parenthood.

I read somewhere (maybe Shane Claiborne?) who said, if you are really PRO-Life then you need to be about all that that means. And that's going to mean that somebody's going to be adopting some kiddos along the way, not just voting conservative republican.

I'm really proud to be on the journey with these friends, several of which Pam and I would consider family. Amazing stories and amazing people. People who are uniquely living into the restoration of all things and the establishing of the kingdom of God.

For the readers of the blog, who are yet to be friends, we are all proud of God's redemptive work in you and your great love for your kids.

For those of us who are not presently adopting kids, it is upon us to come along them and support these folks and walk with them as they raise all their kids in the way of Christ.

Let us be a people who live with an awareness of our responsiblity here.

Adoption is the responsibility of the church - taking care of the 140,000,000 orphans worldwide is the challenge.

I heard that in Oklahoma there are 1000 kids waiting adoption.

How many Christians are there in Oklahoma?

Our church (The Church at Battle Creek) is in the process of forming a plan to be an agent of grace worldwide in regard to orphan ministry.

You can hear Pastor Alex's sermon here - it's worth the listen...

Mark, thanks for the encouragement to the adoption community...and what a wonderful community it is. Heather and I brought home Sarah from Vietnam almost one year ago. Seven months after her arrival, we were crazy enough to do it again, bringing home a beautiful boy, our son, born to my 1/2 sister amidst a whirlwind of complexities and substance abuse. God's redemptive plan at work before our very eyes. We have blessed beyond all measure by the miracle of adoption.

Well, I imagine so. Of course, everyone always knows best the things other families, other Christians ought to do, but in general, what would you say? That pro-lifers are more likely to adopt, or less likely to adopt? If they are, as I strongly suspect, more likely to adopt, it's kind of a criticism without teeth to say that they've got to do more than vote Republican, isn't it?

Kudos.

Our church is partnering with our county to help the children in foster care and promote adoption. I will blog on Wednesday about what it will look like.

As a family; we have a very small house. HOWEVER, we are looking to add to our family (adoption). We also have a burdened for a sibling group.

Thus, we are looking at adding 3 or 4 kids to our family. We are just in the beginning phase.

As an adoptee, I apreciate such words more than you know.

If I played a little rough over at Wade's place, let me know. I'll back off. But you sound like the type that likes to scuffle.
