Kids Be Gone?

Here's an article one might see as symptomatic of our culture and the teens feeling abandoned by adults.

A wall-mounted gadget designed to drive away loiterers with a shrill, piercing noise audible only to teens and young adults is infuriating civil liberties groups and tormenting young people after being introduced into the United States.

The Mosquito, which targets loiterers, projects a shrill noise audible only to teens and young adults.

Almost 1,000 units of the device, called the Mosquito, have been sold in the United States and Canada after the product debuted last year, according to Daniel Santell, the North America importer of the device sold under the company name Kids Be Gone.

How do you know the poster(s) of those comments are teenagers? It could be a bot disrupting the blog or a really bored "adult".

This is hardly about teens feeling 'abandoned by adults' what a joke. This is about parents not training their kids to be responsible or act civilized and businesses/people getting sick of the snot nose little brats. Maybe if parents did their jobs the 'Mosquito' would not be an issue. I know I get sick of them, kudos to businesses that utilize this tool.

The real joke is the concerns about damaging their hearing. I'm surprised most of them can hear at all, what with the thumping and booming from car stereos they inflict on the rest of us. I agree with anonymous - teach 'em to be responsible citizens and there'd be no need for Mosquito.

They most likely originally created this device for Adults. To get this technology to market they created one for teens because a lot of adults fear teenagers because of all the bad press. How long do you think it will be before they start using this on adults. You can get real creative with a devices of this nature. Imagine a world where you could program these things to punish people who swear or say the wrong things that other believe we should not say. Do you still think it's a great idea for little brats who will then be adults? Remember expansion is the motivation of all businesses... Dollar Bills Y'all

I wonder if people would feel the same way about how "great" this device is if only black people could hear it. Race and age are both suspect classifications. You can't justify using a similar device to keep minorities away because minorities are more frequently convicted of crimes...how can you justify driving off young people because they cause trouble more often than older people?

I'd love to see a device to drive away smokers . . . most don't adhere to the signs posted near business about being 20 feet away, etc . . .

This is disgraceful. We as a society should be ashamed of ourselves. Everyone does things that others don't like. The instant that government (American or Canadian or any other) start dictating what people can and can't do, and especially using devices like this one to enforce them, we may as well be in a dictatorship. Where's your papers? sorry, you can't walk there. this is junk, I say destroy every single one you see. Remember the next freedom they take may be yours. I don't think kids loitering should be that big an issue. people have the right to assemble in public.... or so I thought. This should make us all think what the government will be allowing in another 20 years. Maybe we'll only be allowed out of our homes for "official meetings" and be thrown in jail for harrassing the public if we step out otherwise. Open your eyes people. If you don't like kids, too bad for you, they have rights. BTW, I'm 35.

Wow ... looks like your post got assaulted! Maybe you need a mosquito for your blog ...

I gotta be honest, I got pretty angry when I read your post. Yeah, there are teens that disrupt things, but to create devices to drive them off is just awful.

Yes I know teens can get annoying to adults but that gives adults no right to DAMAGE our hearing! Jeez and you call us bad. And do you relize you aren't just hurting our hearing but you are also hurting dogs, rabbits, and other animals! I truthfully think if some people were smart enough, you could find a better soulution!
